Obama's Memorial Speech

先日アメリカで起きたGabrielle Gifford議員に対する銃撃事件の犠牲者に対して、オバマ大統領が行った追悼スピーチが就任後で最高の評価を受けているらしい。ということで観てみた。

追悼のスピーチなのに、ものすごい歓声があがっているのは違和感。まあ、それはいい。

"I believe that for all our imperfections we are full of decency and goodness, and that forces that divide us are not strong as those that unites."

"I want to live up to her expectations. I want our democracy to be as good as Christina imagined it. I want America to be as good as she imagined it. All of us, we should do everything we can do to make sure this country lives up to our children's expectations."

やはりオバマ大統領は、保守とリベラル、白人と黒人とヒスパニックなどの様々な対立があるのではなく、あるのはUnited States of Americaなのだということを強調しているのが特徴だと感じた。
しかし、他の議員が同じことを喋ったら、場がしらけてしまうのではないかと思えるようなことも、迫力を持って伝えさせているのは何によるものなのだろうか。カリスマとしか言えないものか。
